Dover Castle was defended continuously from the Conquest until 1958 – as long as any castle in Britain – its great tower keep dominating the White Cliffs as if greeting, or keeping watch, on comings and goings across the shortest sea crossing to continental Europe. This talk will be a gentle tour through the castle, some of its history and some of its main elements, including an epic siege in 1216-17 and the greatest of rescues in 1940.
