Our current project is:
Recording Of Marlow And District’s Ancient Monuments
ROMADAM is Archaeology in Marlow’s most recent project, sponsored by the Local Heritage Initiative: to survey and record the topography of Marlow’s four major archaeological treasures:
- Medmenham Hillfort – with the exact position of the 12th century Bolebec Castle still to be located
- Danesfield Hillfort – in spite of damage of by previous generations, an important Thames Valley fort
- Warren Wood – possibly a mediaeval enclosure, with earlier history, which has never before been investigated.
- Pullingshill Wood First World War trenches – dug by troops to learn the art of trench making, prior to being sent to France – extensive and unique. Surveying is now complete and a map is available from AiM.
Outcomes of the ROMADAM Project:
- An accurate and lasting record of the monuments
- Information panels on each site
- Web site, booklet ad leaflets
- Scale model of each site
- Increased public awareness leading to a more secure
future
The ROMADAM Project is now in the final stages, working to ensure that the knowledge obtained is available to all interested parties. As part of this work, we are pleased to announce the publication of a book detailing the results of our investigations
Copies of the book can be obtained from WHSmiths in Marlow, or by contacting John Laker.
The cover price of £9.99 includes postage
Organised by Archaeology in Marlow with the Local Heritage Initiative.
